New International Version

Matthew 7:13 Enter through the narrow gate.  For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew: 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 19:17 [...] If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."
Matthew 22:14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen."
Matthew 25:46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Luke 12:4-5 "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.  But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell.  Yes, I tell you, fear him.
Luke 13:23-24 Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?"

He said to them, "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

Luke 16:22-26 "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side.  The rich man also died and was buried.  In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.  So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.  And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

Luke: 20:35-36 those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead [...] can no longer die, for they are like the angels.
John 5:24 whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
John 6:40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 12:25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all men sinned
Romans 19:21 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
2 Cor 2:15-16 For we are to God the aroma of Christ amont those who are being saved and those who are perishing.  To the one we are the sell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
1Thessalonians 4:16-17 The dead will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  An so we will b with the Lord forever.
2Thessalonians 2:10 They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
Hebrews 2:14-15 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Hebrews 12:26-28 "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens."  The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
2 Peter 2:12 But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand.  They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
Revelations 2:7 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
Revelations 14:11 And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever.  There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.
Revelations 19:20 The two of them [the beast his false prophet] were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
Revelations 20:9-10 But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.  And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.  The will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Revelations 20:14-15 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire.  The lake of fire is the second death.  If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelations 21:8

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.  This is the second death

We can only bow our heads in the presence of those broken beneath the burden of their destiny.  The capacity of the human soul for suffering and isolation is immense.
