Passage | New International Version |
Matthew 5:28 | But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already commited adultery with her in his heart. |
Matthew: 19:9 | I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery. |
Luke 20:34-36 | Jesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worth of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage" |
Romans 1:27, 32 | Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. [...] Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. |
1 Cor 5:9 | I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people |
1 Cor 6:9-10 | Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanders nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. |
1 Cor 7:3-6 | The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him aone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. |
1 Cor 7:9 | It is better to marry than to burn with passion. |
1 Cor 11:7-10 | A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head. |
1 Cor 11:12-16 | Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we haveve no other practice--nor do the churches of God. |
1 Cor 14:33-35 | As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. |
Ephesians 5:22-28,31-33 | Wives, submit to your
husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as
Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the
Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should
submit to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives [...] husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. he who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body [...] "For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." |
Colossians 3:18-19 | Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. |
1 Timothy 2:11-15 | A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved though childbearing--if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with propriety. |
1 Peter 3:1,5,6 | Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands [...] this is the way the holy women of the past [...] They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. |
1 Peter 3:7 | Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your lives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. |
Marriage
Perhaps the greatest blessing in marriage is that it lasts so long.
The years, like varying interests of each year, combine to buttress and enrich
each other. Out of many shared years, one life. In a series of temporary
relationships, one misses the ripening, gathering, harvesting joys,
the deep, hard-won truths of marriage.
